Antidiarrheal activity of flowers of Ixora Coccinea Linn. in rats
Ixora coccinea Linn (Rubiaceae), a small shrub cultivated throughout India, has been reported to possess a number of medicinal properties. It has traditionally been used for the treatment of diarrhea and dysentery. However the claims of Ayurveda have to be validated by suitable experimental models. The present study was therefore undertaken to evaluate the effect of aqueous extract of I. coccin...
متن کاملAntimicrobial Properties of Ixora Coccinea L. (rubiaceae)
Antimicrobial activity was detected in the 50% ethanolic extract of Ixora coccinea. The effective inhibitory concentration of the extract against both the bacterial test organisms and the fungal test organisms studied was 125 ug mL(-1), beyond which the inhibitory activity declined and the organisms started reviving from the effect of the antimicrobial principle.
متن کاملEffects of the flower extract of Ixora coccinea Linn. On the meristematic cells of Allium Cepa
The aqueous extract of flowers of I. coccinea was evaluated for its cytotoxic and mutagenic effects on the meristematic cells of onion root tip. The percentage of abnormalities was found to increase with the increase in the concentration of the extract from 20 to 60 mg/ml. With 80 mg/ml completed arrest or total inhibition of cell division was observed. The major abnormalities were unprinted ch...
متن کاملChemical carcinogenesis by 7,12-dimethylbenzanthracene in balb/c mice
Patients and methods The carcinogen DMBA was administered by gavage to 70 Balb/c female mice, diluted in corn oil, at hebdomadary doses of 1 mg per animal for 1, 3, 6 or 9 weeks. Others 20 animals were used in the control group, who received only corn oil administration. Animals were weighed and monitored weekly until death, remaining animals were euthanized at age of 53 weeks. At necropsy, rep...
متن کاملEfficiency Enhancement of Cocktail Dye of Ixora coccinea and Tradescantia spathacea in DSSC
The use of anthocyanin dyes extracted from epidermal leaves of Tradescantia spathacea (Trant) and petals of Ixora coccinea (IX) was evaluated in the application of dye-sensitized solar cells (DSSCs). Subsequently, cocktail anthocyanin dyes from these dyes were prepared and how they enhanced the cell's overall performance was assessed using five different volume-to-volume ratios. Cocktail dyes a...
